What did music be doing in April 2026?
April is here! Spring has arrived and the sun is shining! I’m outside with a beer in my hand and the depression has melted away! Why am I lying to you? We’re all going to be dead in a matter of weeks. Park the imminent annihilation aside for a minute - here’s what happened with music this month.
I’m certainly not ‘board’ of this news!
Scottish electronic music duo have announced their return with their first album in thirteen years, Inferno. Their debut Music Has the Right to Children is an electronic/trip hop/ambient classic and has been super influential for artists such as Four Tet and Tim Hecker. What is this going to sound like? I ain’t got a clue but I’m excited.
I’ve named this one Experimental Rap
JPEGMafia is one of the best rappers going right now. His discography is full of some of the most striking, unique and confrontational production in recent memory and he backs this up with versatile and sometimes controversial lyricism and punchy delivery. His sixth album EXPERIMENTAL RAP arrives on 21st May and single ‘babygirl’ is out now.
April Track Highlights
Olivia Rodrigotothepolls
Former learner driver Olivia Rodrigo has announced her third album you seem pretty sad for a girl in love. Her first two albums are great and were really life changing for me - it was only after listening to them that I realised I am actually a 14 year old girl and I too have feelings. Check out lead single ‘Drop Dead’ for a taste.
Coachella Time Baybee
The 2026 edition of Coachella was headlined by Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber and Karol G but so many others were on the lineup: Geese, Turnstile, Jane Remover, Ethel Cain, Ninajirachi, The Strokes just to name a few. I’m never going to be able to afford to go to Coachella so have to experience it through all the memes that follow each weekend. The highlight was obviously Bieber doing this whole YouTube karaoke thing in the middle of his set. Say what you want about his music or him as a person - this was really funny.
